Rule the Dark, Don't Fear the Light by adiehltwin Rule the Dark, Don't Fear the Light by adiehltwin
Entry for the Riddick: Rule the Dark Contest. To me, one of my favorite aspects of Riddick is the way he rides the edge between good and bad, the dark and the light, so I wanted to capture that idea in my design.

... Still say this should've won. Damn fight-obsessed winner-pickers.

I agree with previous comments... can't understand why it didn't make top 3 - precices nature of Riddick contained here! Love it!

At least the art remains long after the buzz of the film dies down...

Your work is not only the best in terms of artistic quality and for, it is also the most reflective of Riddick's inner quality (that of the character, as well as the creator).

How this didn't place first in the contest- or in the top three - is beyond me. The entire nature of Riddick is just that. He prefers the solitude of the dark to the blinding light of civilization, and thus places himself beyond the law's reach, removing from this world those who would see him dead or placed in chains. Yet he would lay down his own life to protect the life of an innocent (Pitch Black), to destroy those seeking to "convert or kill every last human life" (Chronicles of Riddick) or "anyone trying to put [his] head in a box" (Rule the Dark). He does not unconditionally obey the law because he recognizes that not all laws are just; nor does he unconditionally disobey the law because recognizes that not all laws are unjust - he doesn't use his power to force others to behave in certain ways or to share his beliefs, he "leaves God out of [it]" (Rule the Dark) and "just want[s] to be left alone".

Bravo. Bravo.

This photo is now my desktop background. I've been looking for inspiration and this struck a cord with me, but first I edited in some plain text "Forget the start. It's the end you want to worry about now"

And I know why you didn't place first. The contests judges are selected from deviantART staff, not the creators of the film.

You should make a printout of it, and send it to One Race Films headquarters, which was apparently founded by Vin Diesel himself.

If you decide to do this, here is there address. They would love your art!

Great concept and execution. I like this a lot! It has composition, mood and reflects the setting of the film well. It's very cool that you chose a pose that has to do with inner darkness as well as that of nature.

Kinda reminds me of Illidan Stormrage with the whole perched on a cliff in contemplation sorta thing. Is contemplation the right word? Maybe different one.
